Sir William Gull (1816-1890)
English physician born of modest family origins but after successfully treating the Prince of Wales during a life-threatening attack of typhoid fever, he became a Baronet and was appointed as one of the Physicians-in-Ordinary to Queen Victoria. Gull is also cited for numerous contributions to the medical field including advancing the understanding of myxoderma, Bright's disease, paraplegia and anorexia nervosa.
