Sir Dominic Corrigan (1802-1880)
Irish physician known for his original observations in heart disease. The abnormal pulse heard in aortic valve insufficiency is named Corrigan’s pulse. He was attracted to the field of medicine by a physician in attendance at the seminary school he attended. After receiving his MD from the College of Edinburgh, he returned to Dublin to work with some of its poorest inhabitants. His patient population led him to specialize in diseases of the heart and lungs.
